What is XML?

XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is a document markup language used for conveniently storing information in a structured form and exchanging this data between different programs. XML documents are characterized by simplicity and readability, which is achieved through simple formal syntax and extensible markup. An XML document is a text file in which the data consists of opening and closing tags that frame any information. For example:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <title>This is the title of the article.</title>
    <description>This is a description of the article.</description>
    <body>This is the main part of the article.</body>
